I love my bros, and I’ve now missed two of their birthdays.  Matt’s was in February, and unfortunately we weren’t teaching yet, but I was able to record this video for Andrew’s birthday today.  Happy Birthday to my boys!

    AND ALSO-

A BIG thanks to my homegirl, ShaDawn!

I was more than pleasantly surprised with a package from Dawn last week!  I was so ecstatic I could hardly get the package open!  Dawn and I go waaaaaaaay back to when we were 14 and 15 years old– we’ve been making trouble ever since.

Dawn packed my box with goodies I’ve been missing out on, such as: gossip mags, candy, chocolate, a Phillies T-shirt (cause I’m missing spring training!) and a few necessary items such as a device to help a girl go potty in China and and a nice little book to help me make sure I’m eating all the right foods in China (that’s my nice way of saying a book on Poo :) ).

I’m so thankful for Dawn’s friendship.  I can’t imagine my life without her!  And I definitely can’t wait to go home and get on of her famous hugs!

Dawn- Thank you sooooo much!  You’re truly amazing, and I’m blessed to have such an awesome friend!  And, I’m wearing my Phils shirt right now- gotta represent ;)

    A few of the goodies!

So, I decided that anybody who is awesome enough to send me a package while I’m in China, deserves to get a shout out on the ole blog.

    Here we go:

A HUGE thank you to my wonderful grandparents!  Nana baked me some Valentine’s Day sugar cookies and sent them with love half way across the world.  My grandparents are seriously amazing and I’m so blessed they’re all mine.  They’ve been married almost 64 years and are beyond generous with all they have.

Nana & Pop-pop– I love you!  Thank you for being amazing examples of what it means to be godly.

    Nana's amazing suga' cookies!

  • The Great Wall II

    Date: 2010.03.12 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 1

I’m really far behind in my posts… so, we’re going to play a little catch up.

Last weekend, I took a crazy trip Beijing.  We took an over-night train on Saturday to Beijing, got in Sunday morning, trekked the wall, and then took an over-night train Sunday night back to Nanchang. We arrived back in the ‘Chang Monday morning and promptly headed to class to start teaching for the week.

We were blessed with a very efficient trip.  A lot of things could have potentially gone wrong on this brief expedition, but it went smoothly and we had a blast.

Unfortunately, most of my students will never get the opportunity to see The Great Wall. I’ve had the privilege of seeing it twice.

Here’s a little video of the wall:

  • My Biggest Sacrifice…

    Date: 2010.02.23 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 5

    of being in China is:

Not being able to talk daily to my parents, my brothers, my family, and my friends.

The engagements I’ve missed, the weddings I’ll have missed, the birthdays I wasn’t a part of.

Knowing that I only have a few years left with my grandparents and not being able to spend this time with them, hearing their stories and soaking in their wisdom.

Knowing that my niece won’t really know who I am.

It’s knowing that while I’m gaining new friendships, many will fade away.

All the other materialistic sacrifices don’t amount to the sacrifice of my relationships back home.

Chim Quay is vietnamese for roasted Pigeon.  That’s right, Pigeon.  I figured it’d be a cool experience to eat what most of us think of as “dirty little rats with wings”.
